2026 National Conference

Oakland, CA November 10-13

The Heartland Region has $2000 in financial assistance available to divide among applicants, based on financial need, for current NAI Heartland members. Professionals, students, volunteers, retired interpreters, and Seasonal staff are all encouraged to apply. A reimbursement check for your awarded scholarship amount will be delivered after the end of the conference after completing requirements outlined below.

Recipient requirements:
  • Attend the entire conference.
  • Volunteer at the conference in a position to be assigned.
  • Within two weeks of the conferences end (by Friday, November 27th) write and submit a summary of your experience that includes a picture of you at the workshop. This will be featured in the next issue of Buffalo Bulle-tin.

Eligibility:
  • All applicants must be current NAI members. This scholarship opportunity is open to Heartland members only.
  • Students should be enrolled at least part time in a college or university.
  • Professionals (including volunteers, retired interpreters, and seasonal staff) should have (or previously had) an affiliation with working in the field of interpretation.
    Members of the Scholarship Committee, their employees, and immediate family are not eligible.

To Apply:
Submit a completed application form, including a statement on financial need and how you would benefit from attending the conference. Professionals will also be asked to list three ways your interpretive career has shifted in the past year while students, et al. will be asked to list three ways your pursuit within the interpretation profession has shifted in the past year. All statements should be 500 words max.
Selection criteria include grammar, organization, flow, following directions, relevance and universal appeal, financial need and benefit. Recipients will be notified by Friday August 7th, 2026.
